A Grapevine Police officer on a wellness break helped prevent a mall fire from spreading.
On the morning of November 2, 2022, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Officer Michael Diciero decided to take his break inside Grapevine Mills, where he could exercise inside the property while also helping with security. As soon as he entered the building, he detected the smell of smoke. Officer Diciero began to investigate the scent, and noticed the temperature getting warmer as he continued walking.
As soon as he turned a corner, Officer Diciero could see smoke and flames inside the “Modern Vanity” business. He immediately got on his police radio to request assistance from the Grapevine Fire Department, then notified mall security officers.
Officer Diciero’s quick actions helped prevent the flames from spreading to even more tenants inside the mall.
“I just remember thinking about all of the Christmas decorations that were out, and all of the gifts waiting for families, and wanting to make sure as much of the property as possible could be saved, so Santa could still have his place in the mall this season. I wanted everyone to feel the spirit of Christmas. I’m glad the fire department was able to respond so quickly,” Officer Diciero said.
The fire was later determined to be started by an electrical problem. Nobody was hurt.
Grapevine Police officers train with a tactical wellness program that includes the promotion of physical health and exercise, among other aspects of wellness. The Department is proud of Officer Diciero’s dedication to his health and to the security of businesses in Grapevine.
