It started with an initial arrest for drugs, and ultimately yielded more charges than anyone expected. None of it would have been possible without the teamwork and perseverance of officers committed to fighting crime and narcotics in our city.
On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, patrol officers, with assistance from CID, executed a search warrant in the 4700 block of Brenton Oaks Dr. Four people were arrested, including the primary target who lived there. The search was initially for narcotics, but execution of the warrant led to an extensive array of evidence connected to fraud. The Secret Service was contacted and became involved in the case.
Officer Daniel McClain made the initial arrest in the case, and continued to develop probable cause and obtain a search warrant for the residence. Great work on his part, as well as Sgt. Darin Yarbrough, for the weeks spent gathering evidence. The level of their commitment and strategy was outstanding.
CID deserves credit (namely Sgt. Wes Spillers and Detectives Moeller, Perry, and Wood) for their guidance and help with all of the moving parts in the case.
CSI’s Richard Bradshaw and Tara Owens additionally deserve recognition for their roles in the case, with much more evidence to process than originally anticipated at the residence.
Senior Officers Mark Kuppler, Jerry Penny, Chris Taylor, and Officer Ethan Davis earned props for their roles in the arrests. Not only did they assist with the search warrant, they also apprehended one of the suspects who fled the scene. Officers also reassured neighbors they were safe, which was noted by homeowners on social media.
Dispatch stayed on top of officer locations and communications, while traffic and other patrol officers made sure other areas of the city were covered.
