Defensive Driving
To qualify for defensive driving for a moving violation you:
  • must not have completed a defensive driving course in the twelve months prior to receiving your citation
  • must not have a commercial driver's license
  • must not have been speeding 25 miles or more over the posted speed limit
You must come to the Court in person by the court date printed on your citation to request to take a Driving Safety Course. You must bring your driver's license and proof of valid liability insurance. If you were cited for speeding in a school zone you will need to pay the Court $128.10. All other moving violations will be $103.10. Acceptable forms of payment are cash, money order, Visa, and Mastercard.

Once you receive approval from the Court you will be given a due date to have your paperwork filed by (in most cases 90 days.) Within the given time frame you will need to complete a Driving Safety Class approved by the Texas Education Authority and obtain a certified copy of your driver's record from the Department of Public Safety. The cost for the driving record is $12.00 (type 3A) and can be obtained online at www.texasonline.com. Upon the timely filing of the documentation required by the Court your citation will be dismissed and will not be reported to your driving record.
