What do I need to get a card?
You must fill out an application supplying full name, home address, telephone number, date of birth, proof of address or property ownership, driver’s license number and signature in ink.
Do I have to live in Grapevine to get a card?
An annual $25.00 non-resident fee is charged for patrons living outside Grapevine. Cards are free for Grapevine residents. Property owners in Grapevine may get a free library card upon showing us a current Grapevine property tax bill. GCISD teachers may also get a free card with school ID.
How old do you have to be to get a card?
Grapevine children ages 5 to 17 may be issued a free library card with parent/guardian permission and signature.
Is there a charge for a replacement card?
There is a $1.00 fee for a replacement card.
Can I still check out books without my library card?
Yes. You may use your driver’s license.
My kids go to a Grapevine school. Can they get a free library card?
If your child does not live in Grapevine an annual $25.00 nonresident fee is charged.
Does the library participate in TexShare?
We do not participate in TexShare, so we do not issue or accept TexShare cards. However, we do provide access to TexShare databases which include business resources, health & medical resources and much more.
How old do you have to be to check out DVDs?
Patrons must be at least 18 to check DVDs. Patrons of all ages may check out books, books on CD, and CDs.
When are items due?
All items are due three weeks from the day they are first checked out.
How much for late items?
Each item returned late is charged an extended usage fee of $.10 per day.
Is there a limit on the number of items I check out?
There is no limit on the number of items patrons may check out. However, on the first visit only two items may be checked out after completing the application.
Can I check out Periodicals?
No, we do not allow check out of current or past issues of Periodicals. However, we do have an online resource
, which provides access to 116 titles of periodicals and magazines, available 24/7.
Renewals and Reserves
I have a book on hold. How long are books held?
All items on hold are held for three days from the date the hold is generated. A notification will be sent via email or phone.
How do I reserve books?
You may request material through our
or over the phone. If the material is on the shelf, it is pulled from the shelves twice daily. We will notify you when your material is available for pick up.
Do I need a library card to use the computers?
If you do not have a library card, you can sign up for a Guest Pass at the Circulation. The Guest Pass will allow you access to the computers, for one 4 hour session. You will not be able to check out
materials with a Guest Pass.
Does the library have a scanner?
Yes, we have a scanner, but you must have a USB drive to scan documents on. If you need help scanning, please ask a Reference Librarian.
Does the library have a fax machine?
Yes, we have a fax machine. The cost is $1.00 per page for local numbers, and $2.00 per page for long distance numbers.
How much does it cost to make copies at the library?
Copies are $.10 a page for black and white, and $1.00 a page for color copies.
Can I print in color?
Yes, the color printer is available for $.25 a copy. Please make sure you select the color printer (PubRefColor) when you print the document.
Do you have free Wifi?
Yes, we do have access to free wifi. The account name is library_guest and there is no password.
Can I print from my laptop to the library’s printer?
Yes, you can print to our printer from your laptop, if it is a document. You can not print from a browser. Click on

Can I print from home to the library’s printer?
We do have

Do I need a library card to access Wifi?
No, just log on to the wifi account library_guest. There is no password.
Can I access databases from home?
Most of our databases you are able to access from home. You will either need your library card barcode and pin number (the last four digits of your home phone), or a TexShare password, which is available to you by calling the Reference Desk at 817-410-3404. Please call the Reference Desk if you have specific questions about any database.
Can I download books to my Kindle/Nook/iPad?

How do electronic books and audiobooks work?
There are two different services,

Does the library offer computer classes?
No, we currently do not offer any computer classes. Through our database

What software do you have on your computers?
We have Microsoft Access, Excel, Powerpoint and Word on each computer.
Does the library take donations?
Yes, we accept donations of books, magazines, videos, audiobooks, music CD’s, vinyl’s, computer programs, and Audio/Video equipment. If you are donating a large amount of items, bring your donations to the doors on the south side of the library near the Convention Center. Ring the doorbell located next to the doors and we will assist you.
Can I reserve a study room?
Study Rooms are on a first come, first serve basis. We do not take reservations. We currently have 9 study rooms, which can fit 4 people in a room. Four of the rooms have whiteboards as the back walls, and we do
have dry erase markers that you can borrow. We do not have meeting rooms available for a larger group of people.
Does the library offer test proctoring?

Yes, we have the following Grapevine High School yearbooks: 1924, 1925, 1933, 1934, 1938, 1942-1968, 1981, 1986, 1988-1991, 1993-2003
Can I get tax forms at the library?
We do not give out individual tax forms at the library. We have a binder that the IRS provides us, and you can make a copy of each form for $.10 a page. Printable forms are available at
When is the Genealogy Room open?
The Genealogy Room is open whenever the library is open.
Can I reserve the program room for a group meeting?
The program room is reserved only for Library Programs. If you feel you have a program that would qualify
for a Library Program, please contact the Reference Desk at 817-410-3404. The program has to be free and open to the public, and can not promote a specific product or service. Programs need to be booked 1-2 months in advance to allow time to publicize.
Can I check out a reference book?
No, Reference Books are to be used in the library only.
Does the library loan out headphones for computer use?
We do not have headphones for loan. We do offer earbuds for sale at the circulation desk for $1.50.
Does the library have a book club?
meets the 2nd Monday of every month at 1:00. We read a mixture of fiction, nonfiction, and classics. Twice a year we make selections for the next 6 months. Anyone and everyone is invited to
participate, all that we ask is that you please read the book before coming!
How do I reserve the display case in the lobby?
There are two Adult Display cases in the lobby, and one Children's. These display cases are used to showcase collections, artwork, and/or textiles from people in our community. To reserve the Children’s display case,

Do you have National Geographic?
We do have bound copies of National Geographic that contain most volumes between 1938 through 2010.
What databases do you have?
We subscribe to the following databases: NewsBank (including America’s GenealogyBank and Dallas Morning News Historical Archive, 1885-1977); NewspaperArchive; ProQuest Obituaries; Ancestry Library Edition;
Fold3 (formerly Footnote); and HeritageQuest Online.
Can I access them from home?
HeritageQuest Online can be accessed from home through the TexShare database if you have a Grapevine Library card. You must first show your card to a librarian in order to get the URL (web address), login, and password to TexShare. NewsBank can be accessed from home with your library card barcode.
Do you have newspapers?

When is the Genealogy Room open?
Genealogy is open whenever the library is open.
Do you have books I can check out?
Yes, we have a small circulating collection mainly consisting of how-to books (how to get started; use photographs; do ethnic research; do online research. Books of records are for reference use only.
Can I print/save/e-mail items from databases?
You can do this with most of the databases.
Do you have old maps of Grapevine?
The best “old” map of Grapevine that we have was drawn in 1982 and shows how Grapevine looked between the 1800s and 1920. We have a few older fold-out street maps. We also have a few maps of Tarrant County from various years, a few of which show the landowners.
Do you have Grapevine city directories?
No. The only copies of a Grapevine city directory known to exist are from 1972 and are at the state library in Austin and the Dallas Public Library. Fort Worth Public Library has directories for greater Fort Worth but Grapevine is not included in them. The Dallas Public Library has telephone directories for Grapevine for the
years 1955-1962 and 1964-1996.
Do you have old photos of Grapevine?
We do not have any original photos of Grapevine. The only photos are in the Grapevine Area History book, the book Grapevine’s Unforgettable Characters, and a few photocopies in the Grapevine Local History File.
Do you have aerial photos of Grapevine before they built the lake?
The only photos we have of Grapevine prior to lake construction are a few photocopied articles from the Dallas Morning News in the Local History File.
Do you do lookups?
Yes, we can look up specific information about an individual in a specific book or database. We cannot do lengthy research on an individual or family.
How much do copies cost?
Photocopies and printouts cost $.10 each. Anything that is photocopied and mailed by the staff costs $1 per page to cover copying and postage costs.
Do you have genealogical periodicals?
Yes, we have many genealogical periodicals. They are not cataloged. Please see the genealogical
list on the Genealogy page.
Do you have genealogy classes?
We currently offer two free beginner programs a year in May and November. A free intermediate class is offered in March. However, assistance is available year round.
