Photo ID Now Required for Voting in Texas

Visit the Texas Secretary of State's website for information on changes to Texas law that requires photo identification for all voters.

A voter will be required to show one of the following forms of photo identification at the polling location before being permitted to cast a vote:
  • Texas driver license
  • Texas personal identification card
  • Texas concealed handgun license
  • United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
  • United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
  • United States passport

Do not possess and cannot reasonably obtain one of these IDs? Fill out a declaration at the polls explaining why and bring one of the following supporting documents?
  • Valid voter registration certificate
  • Certified, original birth certificate
  • Copy of or original current utility bill
  • Copy of or original bank statement
  • Copy of or original paycheck
  • Copy of or original government paycheck
  • Copy of or original government document with your name and an address (original required if it contains a photograph)
With the exception of the U.S. citizenship certificate, the identification must be current or have expired no more than 4 years before being presented for voter qualification at the polling place.
