Parks and Maintenance
Kevin Mitchell, Assistant Director of Parks
Bachelors of Science Degree in Horticulture and a Masters of Agriculture both from Texas Tech University. Kevin joined the City of Grapevine in July 1999. Prior to Grapevine, Kevin managed the Horticulture Garden & Greenhouses at Texas Tech University, worked on Walt Disney World’s Horticulture team and worked for several large commercial landscape companies in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex.
Awards: Recreational and Parks Society (TRAPS) State award for Innovations in Park Design, TRAPS Jerry D. Garrett Young Professional of the Year award 2005, TRAPS 2005 Park Professional of the Year, TRAPS 2005 Maintenance Award, Volunteer of the year award from Grapevine Garden Club, and he has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the local Youth Sports Associations. Kevin has spoken to Garden Clubs, universities, professional conferences (local, regional, state, & national), civic organizations, and others on a wide range of topics from landscaping techniques to personnel management tools. His skills have lead him to be published in numerous printed media, including local newspapers, TRAPS magazine, trade journals, and websites.
His focus and dedication to the City of Grapevine as a whole are exemplified in the number of hours that he allocates to his church, family, and outside civic and professional groups. He sits on the Administrative Council at his church, participates in his children’s school activities, is a member of AMBUCS, volunteers for the Grapevine Heritage Foundation, and Grapevine Garden Club. Mr. Mitchell currently serves on the Texas Recreation & Park Society Board as President for the Parks Maintenance and Planning Branch.
Timothy Hamilton, Foreman - Park Maintenance
Timothy Hamilton started with the City of Grapevine as a crew leader in April, 2003. Timothy was promoted to foreman in May, 2006. Prior to this, Timothy worked for the City of Arlington for 7 years and Owens Family Restaurants for 5 years as general manager. As a Certified Playground Safety Inspector, Timothy enjoys ensuring a pleasant, safe experience for even the smallest of Grapevine citizens. Timothy is proud of the work his crew does in maintaining the high quality recreational opportunities that our citizens enjoy in the parks.
Rusty Walker, Foreman - Athletics and Horticulture
Rusty Walker holds an Associates degree of Applied Sciences in Landscape Management. Prior to accepting the position of Athletic /Horticulture Foreman in October 2005, he worked in the Golf industry for 12 years as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and 12 years as a Golf Course Superintendent. He has served on local Golf Course Superintendent Association board as well as, served as the President of the organization. Mr. Walker was also recognized by his peers as Superintendent of the Year in 1995. Rusty is extremely excited to be working for the city and is looking forward to improving the quality of the athletic fields and horticulture areas of the city.
Tony Steele, Irrigation Foreman
Anthony "Tony" Steele is a third generation irrigator. Tony's grandfather was one of the first licensed irrigators in the State of Texas. Prior to accepting the position as an irrigation technician with the City of Grapevine he worked in his family business for 15 years. Tony’s dedication and hard work are evident in everything he does for the City, he is a true team player.
Lisa Adams Grove, Gardener/Horticulturist
Lisa joined the City of Grapevine in January 2007 as the gardener for the Botanical Gardens. Lisa earned an Associate of Applied Science in Horticulture from Tarrant County College in 1996. In 2002 she graduated from Tarleton State University with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and Landscape Management. She has also taught adult education courses for Texas Christian University as well as college credit courses at Tarrant County College. Prior to joining the Grapevine team, Lisa was employed as a Gardener at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden for eight and one half years. She is excited to bring her experience working in the oldest botanic garden in Texas to the youngest botanic Garden in Texas.
