The City of Grapevine is proud to host its annual Tree-Sharing program for the 23rd consecutive year! Did you lose trees in the June storm? Would you like to provide shade for your home and yard? Would you like to help grow the Grapevine Urban Forest? This is your opportunity to partner with the City of Grapevine in "sharing" the cost, 50/50, of up to two trees per household planted in your yard.
Your half of the cost is only $90 per 30-gallon container-grown tree. The price includes planting, and a six month, one-time replacement guarantee. The tree will be eight to twelve feet tall and must be planted at least 30 feet from each other. The trees offered this year are Red Oak (Quercus shumardii), Live Oak (Quercus virginiana), Bur Oak (Quercus macrocarpa), Chinkapin Oak (Quercus macrocarpa), and Chinese Pistache, (Pistacia chinensis). All five of the trees offered this year are locally grown and do well in Grapevine.
Sales will begin Monday, October 5 from 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Grapevine Municipal Service Center, 501 Shadybrook Drive. Trees are limited and they will be sold on a "first come–first served" basis. A maximum of two trees will be allowed for purchase per household. Sales will continue each Monday–Friday, until all trees are sold. Payment must be made by check or money order to the "City of Grapevine" for the amount of purchase only. No cash or credit cards will be accepted.
In addition to the Tree-Sharing program the City is offering one "FREE" educational seminar called Trees for Life for Grapevine residents. This hands-on seminar will cover site selection, species selection, how to plant, how to maintain, and tree pruning. This class will be offered on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 6:30–8:30 p.m. Class will be conducted at the Grapevine Senior Activities Center, 421 Church Street.
