The City Secretary's Office started filing births and deaths occurring in the City limits in August 1973. Vital records are confidential by State law and are only issued to qualified applicants-registrant, mother, father, sibling, grandparent, guardian or legal representative. Government issued identification is required.

The City Secretary's Office is on-line with the State of Texas and can issue birth certificates for persons born in Texas since 1926. The computerized certificate is an abstract of birth, giving only the registrant's name, date of birth, county of birth and the registrant's parents' name. The abstract of birth is a legal document for identification purposes and has a raised seal.

Birth and Death records are issued based on the type of record requested as follows:

Fees--NOTE: The fee for each search is non-refundable or transferable, even if a record is not found

Birth record-$23.00 per certified certificate as of October 1, 2009

Death record (per person)-$21.00 for the first certificate and $4.00 for each additional certificate issued at the same time as of October 1, 2009
