Mayor Pro Tem C. Shane Wilbanks is a native Texan and has been a Grapevine resident since 1965.

 

He served as Chair of the Convention and Visitors Bureau Board for five years, and then was appointed as a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission for two years prior to being elected to Place 1 of the City Council in 1985. Mr. Wilbanks has been re-elected eight times since, most recently in May of 2009.

 

His current community activities include serving on the Executive Board of Directors of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), and on the Board of Directors for the Department of Education of the University of North Texas. His prior service includes serving as an Advisory Board member of the Harris Hospital Health Foundation, Advisory Board Member for Premier Bank, president of the Grapevine High School Football Athletic Booster Club, president of the DFW Soccer Association, president of the Grapevine Rotary Club, Board Member of G.R.A.C.E, and Board Member of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce. He is an elder in the First Presbyterian Church and has served on several church committees. In addition, he previously served as a Steering Committee Member for both the Information and Technology Committee and also the Transportation and Communications Committee with the National League of Cities in Washington, D.C. He currently serves on the National League of Cities’ Leadership & Development Committee.

 

He and his wife, Paula, a former educator with GCISD, raised three children in Grapevine, and all of whom now reside in and around the Austin, Texas area.
