OVERVIEW OF 2006 GRAPEVINE REFERENDUM PACKAGE

Proposition One: New Rail Service on “The T”

Proposition One would authorize a one-half cent increase to the local sales tax rate (4B) to fund commuter rail service for Grapevine families on "The T" rail system.

The proposed rail line would provide rail service from downtown Grapevine to DFW Airport and from Grapevine into Southwest Fort Worth with stops in downtown Fort Worth. Riders would be able to eventually connect to Dallas via DART at the airport.

Proposition Two: Crime Control & Prevention District

Also through a one-half cent increase in our sales tax, Proposition Two would generate an estimated $9 million each year for a Crime Control and Prevention District.

This proposition would free up millions of dollars in general revenue funds that may be used for capital improvements in Grapevine.

Both Propositions: Sports Fields, Parks & Transit Center

A portion of the funds raised by the propositions also would be used to pay for new youth sports fields, park amenities and renovations to Grapevine’s recreation center. For travelers on the "The T" rail system, a new transit center and parking garage would be built in Grapevine’s downtown area using funds from Proposition One.

Impact on Taxpayers

Grapevine property taxes will not be increased by Proposition One or Proposition Two.

The average Grapevine resident would pay about $2.00 per month in higher sales taxes. Tourists and out-of-town shoppers would pay 80% of all new revenue raised by the sales tax increase.*
