VIPS Honored for Service

50 Grapevine Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) earned Presidential Awards at the 2019 Awards Banquet held in the Grand Hall of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.  

In 2018, active police volunteers contributed 18,863 volunteer hours, and the equivalent of $465,616 in work to the Grapevine community and police department.  VIPS activities vary by interest levels and need.  They include helping at Animal Services, Records, the front desk, jail, gun range, Criminal Investigations Division, as well as supporting community events, police candidate testing, vacation checks, Sky Watch, patrols, fleet services and the speed trailer.

Grapevine City Councilman Paul Slechta served as the Guest Speaker for the event, while Grapevine Police Chief Mike Hamlin and Grapevine Police Assistant Chief Tim Hall joined in the Presentation of Awards.  Special thanks go out to all city leaders who attended the banquet in a show of support for the VIPS: Mayor William D. Tate, City Manager Bruno Rumbelow, Assistant City Manager Jennifer Hibbs, City Councilwoman Sharron Rogers, Mayor Pro Tem Darlene Freed, City Councilman Chris Coy, and City Councilwoman Duff O'Dell. Grapevine Police Chaplain Mark Massey is recognized for leading the Invocation, while Lieutenant Barry Bowling gave the Benediction. Much appreciation also goes to Sergeant Jason Keller for leading the event and supporting the VIPS throughout the year.
