    Fire Prevention Week is observed in the United States during the week between October 6 through October 12. Fire Prevention Week commemorates the Great Chicago Fire. This tragic fire took place in 1871 and killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres. The Grapevine Fire Department recognizes this week in October by hosting an OPEN HOUSE. Please join us on Saturday, October 4 from 10 AM to 2 PM at Grapevine Fire Station #1, 601 Boyd Drive to meet firefighters, see fire engines, use a fire hose and see demonstrations and learn about safety and emergency preparedness. Participate in games and enjoy complimentary hot dogs. Free Smoke Alarms are available for adults.

    Come Ride With Us on Saturday, October 4 from 9AM-1PM at Horseshoe Trail as we celebrate our annual (and national event) TAKE A KID MOUNTAIN BIKING DAY! Enjoy a morning of complimentary items: a beginners clinic, a general repair clinic, trail rides for various abilities, free bike maintenance from participating bike shops, promotional items, custom engraved Mirrycle bike bells and bike shop raffle items. Lunch will also be provided (while supplies last). Activities will take place from 9AM to 1PM, at the Horseshoe trail head (on the east side off Boathouse Rd/Catfish Ln, McPherson Slough). The beginner clinic is a simple approach for newer riders to learn new ways of riding trails, and techniques. And of course, advanced riders to hone their skills. The repair clinic will demonstrate show processes of fixing flats, repairing chains, etc. Each bike shop will have mechanics for support, and all offering giveaways.

Hale Baskin is endowed with a clear, beautiful voice, a sure sense of swing, and a seemingly innate sense of the nuances of Jazz phrasing. She channels songbirds of the 1940's Big Bands to Ella Fitzgerald-inspired Jazz favorites, all the way to Motown, soul, and down-home blues.

  7. Tree Sharing Program

    Our annual Tree Sharing program kicks off on Saturday, October 18. Trees ordered through the tree sharing program will be scheduled for delivery to your home and planted by professionals. This program is a joint effort between the City and Grapevine Homeowners in “sharing” the cost, 50/50, of up to two trees per household planted in the homeowner’s yard. Your half of the cost is only $100 for each 30-gallon container locally grown tree. The price includes planting, and a six month, one-time replacement guarantee. The tree will be 8-12' tall and must be planted at least 30' apart. The trees offered this year are: Red Oak Quercus shumardii, Live Oak - Quercus virginiana, Chinkapin Oak - Quercus muehlenbergii, Chinese Pistache - Pistacia chinensis, Desert Willow - Chilopsis linearis (may be multi-trunk), Mexican Buckeye - Ungnadia speciosa (may be multi-trunk), Yaupon Holly Tree - Ilex vomitoria (may be multi-trunk), Possumhaw Holly Tree - Ilex decidua (may be multi-trunk).
